A brief history of composite decking

1995 – Composite decking hits the market with a material similar to medium-density fiberboard. It was monochromatic in color and faded very quickly. So a far cry from the beauty and character of natural wood.

In the late ’90s, grain patterns were introduced to create a wood-like appearance. But performance-wise, the material hadn’t improved much in that it was still susceptible to mold, scratching & staining. It also faded up to 30%.

In the early 20s, AZEK launches a line of PVC decking products. This pure polymer formula offered better scratch & fade resistance. As well as more thermal contraction or expansion on length. A variety of earthy tones and light pastel colors were also introduced.

In the mid-20s, color streaking was introduced to replicate real wood decking. Trex was at forefront of this innovation with its “Brasilia” collection. PVC comes out with a darker range of colors with added color streaks, lending composites a more realistic look.

Mid-late 20’s to now, capped composites are introduced. It combines the performance benefits of a polymer that is scratch and fade-resistant. It also has the cost-saving advantage of a lower composite score. The selection of variegated boards with greater color & streak selection continues to expand and evolve.

At this point, even mother nature can’t tell the difference between real wood and composite products.

We use the poplar wood fiber (50%), HDPE(38%), and the additives 12%. So our composite material has very good performance on anti-UV. And the color is stable even in the hot climate.

Selection of raw materials and standard control

We have set up a very strict quality control system from the raw material to the finished product. For example, during the wpc production extrusion. We will test the composite decking one time for each 200meters. Test the color, the size, and the strength. If there is one item not okay, we will crush all this batch product.

Strictly control the procurement standards of raw materials. And do not choose low-priced and low-quality materials. According to product characteristics, choose the most stable and high-quality raw materials. Test on plastic raw materials, density, ash content, melting index, and other indicators. And each step of the production have very strictly quality control. We are sure that each pc of our material is very good quality surely.

Additives ratio
